We win again - and are up with the Big Boys !

Leeza has done it again. She has been crowned Christmas Star Baker ! Link - to list of winners

With our soon to be launched piewich range - the product has picked up its first award under it’s own name in the British Bakers annual competition Christmas Stars.

All the winners where the Big Boys - like Lidl, Aldi, Asda, Co-op and Costa Coffee. And look who was sitting alongside them - us, The Russian Food Company. We are a very small bakery in Sheffield run by the husband and wife team of Leeza Murina and Steve Jones.

Their Chicken, Cranberries and Walnuts piewich scooped the first prize in the Festive Savoury Pies & Pastries category. Unlike some of the other winners, there was no runner-ups to our dominant first spot :-)

What pleased us even more was when you looked at who was behind some of the other winners. For example, the company that made the Costa winner was CSM Bakery Solutions. Who are they? They describe themselves as is an international leader in the baking industry, producing one of the industry’s broadest ranges of products for customers in more than 100 countries. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Holy smoke ! A global bakery corporation was needed for Costa to win. For us - it needed just Leeza and a bakery operation put together for comparative pennies compared the behemoth that is CSM Bakery Solutions!

Watch out for where our piewiches are going. We are in serious talks with a range of blue chip companies who love the look and taste of them.

Products are judged and scored ‘blind’ – with judges unaware of the product’s manufacturer/retailer.

Judges will be marketing against key criteria including:

  • Appearance

  • Taste

  • Aroma

  • Value for money

  • Innovation

Judges will select one product as a Winner in each category and one or more products may be awarded Highly Commended.
